Description
The sculptural art of the Attye tribe from the lagoon regions on the eastern coast of the Ivory Coast is characterised by mostly full-frontal female figures with muscular legs and arms, an elaborate coiffure and a rich patina. Used by traditional healers, the role of these figures was to convey messages to spirits living in the other world. They were also occasionally given as prizes to outstanding dancers.
