Congo currency blade

Country of origin
Congo
Description
Early tribespeople seem to have used a word meaning "thing of value" to describe iron. In addition to making weapons and tools, blacksmiths also produced metal currency for many hundreds of years. This currency came in the form of simple ingots or crosses of iron, but also in a variety of forms modelled on functional items including the various currency blades (and axes). These currency pieces were favoured items of trade, which can make attributation to a specific ethnic group somewhat difficult.
