Louale Mikishi Mask

- Among the Louale group in the western province of Zambia, masquerades are associated with circumcision and initiation ceremonies. Boys undergo a 6-month learning period isolated in a special camp; the celebrations at the beginning and end of this period feature masquerades using masks called mikishi representing the guardian chikusa spirits.
