Luba figure (arrow-rest)

Country of origin
Congo
Description
The Luba people from the south-eastern Congo are an important tribe artistically. The old Luba kingdom with its sacred kingship and efficient organisation of state power over neighbouring tribes has left a rich heritage of artifacts. The wooden carved figures are generally finely rounded in form with a round face and large half-closed eyes. In Luba art, the human figure often forms part of a larger piece as in this three-pronged arrow-rest.
