- The Punu people are located on the left side of the Upper Ngoume River in Gabon. Punu carvers decorated their cult houses with doors and posts or panels with raised geometric and figurative motifs, as can be seen on this panel. The figures are covered with white pigments alluding to their anti-witchcraft functions. The double coiffure and square chin on the upper figures is associated with the stylistic variations of a Punu sub-tribe, the Njabi.
